Description: The fifth grade class from Phoenicia Elementary will be conducting interviews of local elders for yet another year of our wonderful OralHistory Project. They’ll be working togther as a group in the morning, then splitting off to record their interviews. Event: Central Catskills Collaborative Meeting

Description: Shandaken Moves Forward on Scenic Byway Project

The public is invited to attend a meeting of the Central Catskills Collaborative hosted by the Town of Shandaken. The Town’s Byway Group is engaged in the resource-inventory phase of the Route 28 Scenic Byway Nomination and is seeking the public’s input. A successful nomination includes a cataloguing of the intrinsic qualities along the corridor in each community. The groupwill give a presentation on its inventory progress and ask for assistancein identifying additional resources within five themes: historical, recreational, cultural, scenic, and natural.

Collectively, the seven Collaborative communities (from Hurley to Andes) have envisioned a future forthe region that includes enhanced inter-community coordination and regional marketing, improved access to recreational resources, strengthening of main street economies, and greater awareness of the region’s historical and cultural assets. Realizing this vision entails a well crafted nomination package and strong public support.

The meeting will be held at 6PM on Thursday, March 4th at the Pine Hill Community Center and refreshments will be served.
